The transformative powers of the perfect bikini is undeniable; the right piece makes you feel as though you can rule the world – or at least the beach.
However, while your swimwear needs to work in harmony with your body, it also need to work in harmony with the planet.
Beautiful swimwear shouldn't cost the earth, and it doesn’t have to. At Kōraru, we are proud to be part of the global movement transforming the swimwear space into a planet-first proposition, with innovative fabrics, ethical processes and thoughtful designs. Every time you choose to invest in a piece that has been created mindfully, you are helping to protect our natural world and those who call it home.
We believe that buying sustainably is more than important, it’s imperative. Together, we can make a difference.
REDUCE OCEAN PLASTICS
Each year up to 8 millions tons of plastic waste enters our oceans, causing life-threatening damage to precious marine life and ecosystems. Econyl® is a regenerated fabric made from waste sources, including discarded fishing nets, which can be crafted into high-stretch, long-lasting swimwear. Not only does this process help clean up our oceans, the circular nature of Econyl® means it can be continuously recycled and won’t end up back in the sea.
PRESERVE NATURAL RESOURCES
For a long time swimwear has been made from virgin synthetic fabrics which, when created, use up our planet’s rapidly depleting natural resources and cause environmental pollution. This detrimental impact can be radically lessened by switching to swimwear made using recycled fabrics and produced with water and carbon-saving processes. With an estimated 92 million tons of textile excess being created every year, utilising recycled fabrics, instead of creating new ones, is also a much needed step towards cutting down on waste.
CHAMPION HIGH QUALITY FABRICS
Buying sustainably doesn't mean sacrificing on style or quality – in fact, quite the opposite. Regenerated fabrics such as Econyl® come with unparalleled technical benefits including durability and elasticity for comfort and superior fit, plus, they're oil and suncream resistant and are fast-drying. At Kōraru, we blend these features with considered design and beautiful craftsmanship into luxurious, cherish-forever pieces.
SUPPORT ETHICAL SUPPLY CHAINS
An ethical, transparent supply chain is an integral part of authentically sustainable brands. This means at every stage of manufacturing and production, fair, safe and protective decisions are made to enhance the lives of every person involved in the making process. When you shop sustainably, you are supporting the eradication of exploitation within supply chains and communicating the vital message that workers’ rights must be respected, and craftsmanship valued. Kōraru swimsuits are made in partnership with our manufacturer in Columbia who shares our belief system, providing safe employment for local women and investing in local communities by supporting community charities.
Sustainable swimwear doesn’t begin and end with a bikini. Every element of a sustainable process is approached with the planet’s wellbeing front of mind, from material innovation to waste-reducing practices. When you choose to consume sustainably, you’re supporting a brighter bigger picture. Kōraru packaging uses 100% recyclable materials including Paptic Tringa®, a biodegradable plastic alternative, and Shiro Alga Carta, which is made from renewable algae. The design is intentionally lightweight and minimal so that as little energy is used as possible during transportation.
ENCOURAGE WARDROBE LONGEVITY AND CIRCULARITY
When a piece looks good and feels good, you want to wear it forever. While the modern fast fashion cycle has promoted a disposable mindset, investing in high quality swimwear that has been built to last, reinforces the idea that clothes should be loved for a lifetime, not just a season. Every Kōraru piece has been thoughtfully designed for the perfect feel-good fit, in a stylish silhouette that will stand the test of time. Continuously recyclable, at the end of its lifespan each swimsuit can be reimagined into a new garment, rather than going to landfill.
