Having always dreamed about living next to the ocean, Ukrainian designer, Ola Nechyporenko, relocated to the beautiful country of Indonesia to raise her young family. Inspired by her natural surroundings, she launched Olamii, a jewellery brand that reflects and celebrates the wonder of island life. Each piece is handmade by local artisans in Bali, using gold vermeil and responsibly sourced pearls from the Maluku islands. As timeless as they are free-spirited, these are treasures guaranteed to be worn and loved for years to come.

To mark International Women's Day, the inspirational founder shares her favourite adventures and the message she'd give to her younger self.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST-CHERISHED TRAVEL MEMORY?

At Christmas time I went on a road trip with my family around the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. We packed the car with surfboards and a few other island life essentials, and my son brought all the toys he no longer plays with, as well as a Santa hat he had made. We explored many of the most popular surf spots and enjoyed having the beautiful water to ourselves. In between stops my son would ask to pull over so he could give his toys to the children of the island. This trip forever has a special place in my heart.

FAVOURITE HOLIDAY SPOT?

Living in Indonesia, I really miss Europe and the abundance of culture it boasts. But, my answer will always be the beach – with some long lefts to surf!

BUCKET LIST DESTINATION?

I’d love to visit Hawaii, Tahiti, South Africa and Japan for sure.

FAVOURITE BEACH READ?

Even if I take a book to the beach, I never end up reading it as I have a busy six-year-old that I need to keep an eye on! However, if I were to have this luxury, it would probably be a biography. I really enjoyed the last book I read: Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey.

BEST PODCAST FOR A LONG JOURNEY?

I love listening to Joe Rogan and Jay Shetty. Recently I’ve been using Audible to listen to more books. Shoe Dog by Phill Knight is an awesome book about Nike’s story.

WHAT IS ON YOUR TRAVEL PLAYLIST?

The Beautiful Girls. They have the perfect vibe for traveling.

TOP TRAVEL TIP?

I guess it would be to just take a smile and an open heart. Meet lots of people, share meals with locals and get lost.

WHERE ARE YOU HOPING TO VISIT NEXT?

I really want to go home to Ukraine to visit my beautiful land and give a hug to my loved ones. I’m praying for peace.

WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

Don’t believe every story your head tells you; it’s not the truth, it’s just a story.

WHAT WORDS OF SUPPORT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY?

No one is built like you, you create yourself.
