The global swimwear market is a significant power player in the fashion arena. Predicted to reach almost $30 billion by 2025, its impact and influence is only set to grow.

Being part of this expanding industry comes with great responsibility, both to the natural world and the people involved in the creating process. At Kōraru we recognise that the platform it provides gives us an opportunity to enact and communicate positive changes. Which is why, along with fellow forward-thinking labels in this space, we exclusively use Econyl® regenerated yarn to craft our swimsuits.

A truly circular material, Econyl® regenerated yarn is made from synthetic waste that would otherwise pollute the earth, including discarded fishing nets rescued from the ocean. For every 10,000 tons of Econyl® made, 67,100 tons of carbon dioxide is spared from going into the atmosphere and 70,000 barrels of crude oil are saved. The regenerated yarn can be infinitely recycled and reused, keeping it out of landfill.

The planet-friendly credentials of Econyl® are impressive, but that’s not all. The high-performing fabric comes with several benefits that make for superior quality swimwear, too. Consider it the perfect pool-side partner.

SHAPE RETENTION

One of the biggest issues with swimwear is that it often loses its shape after a few wears, becoming baggy, uncomfortable and unflattering. However, the durability of Econyl® means our swimsuits retain their shape, even after repeat wear, and stay looking and feeling good for several summers to come. This longevity means you won’t need to buy a new swimsuit next year – unless, of course, you want to.

PERFECT FIT

The confidence boost that comes from a perfectly-fitting swimsuit is undeniable. And if there’s one place we all want to feel like the very best version of ourselves, it’s at the beach. Each one of our Econyl® swimsuits are flexible enough to ebb and flow with the curves of the body, giving a unique-to-you fit.

SUPREME COMFORT

At Kōraru we know that if you feel comfortable in swimwear, you’ll want to wear it again and again. Our fabric has a smart four-way stretch that moves in unison with your body, offering support and comfort whether you’re walking on the sand or swimming in the ocean.

RESISTANCE TO SUNCREAM AND OIL

While using a high-level SPF is essential to protect skin in the sun, suncreams and oils can be damaging to your swimwear. Formulas are absorbed into the fabric where, over time, they weaken fibres and cause discolouration. Econyl® is twice as resistant to suncream and oil, meaning all of our swimsuits will stand up to repeat SPF application.

SOFT TOUCH

Recycled fishing nets might not initially sound soft on the skin, however, the innovative regeneration and purification process used to transform plastic waste into Econyl® yarns ensures the end result is soft and supple. Dedicated to creating beautiful, love-forever swimwear, every one of our bikinis are luxurious to touch.

ULTRA CHLORINE RESISTANT

Chlorine in swimming pools plays havoc with swimwear; think shredded fibres, weakened elastic and faded colours. Kōraru swimsuits utilise the chlorine-resistant properties of Econyl® to make sure they can be worn and enjoyed anywhere and everywhere without getting damaged.

UV PROTECTION

Econyl® can withstand the degradation caused by exposure to ultraviolet light and therefore helps shield skin from harmful UV rays. Along with a high SPF and sun hat, a Kōraru swimsuit packed into your beach bag is a sun-safe essential.

EXCELLENT COVERAGE

The right coverage is key when it comes to swimwear. Econyl® provides lightweight coverage that doesn’t go transparent when wet. At Kōraru, we double our fabric over to give an extra layer of protection, allowing you to swim in full confidence.

EASY TO CARE FOR

Giving your swimwear the right care means it will last a lifetime – and the easier to do that, the better. Econyl® can be washed at 40°C using delicate detergent, then laid flat to air-dry.
