WISH YOU WERE HERE: HOLLY CHIPPINDALE

Holly Chippindale is an adventurer at heart. After growing up in Australia, she moved to Bali six years ago in search of a balanced, down-to-earth lifestyle. Her passion for photography and film has taken her across the globe, from the Italian Riviera to the tropical beaches of Indonesia, capturing the beauty of the landscape through the lens of her Super 8 camera.

As well as her signature nostalgic images, Holly lends her contemporary style eye to interiors brand, House of Slim, which she founded with her partner.

We were delighted to collaborate with Holly on our campaign shoot to launch the Kōraru Coral Collection. Here she shares her inspirational destinations and travel essentials.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST-CHERISHED TRAVEL MEMORY?

That's a tricky one as I've been fortunate to have so many dream moments over the years. Last summer I went to Milos which was incredibly special. I spent a week driving around the Greek island on a moped with my partner, exploring all the natural wonders of the area. The island has so much to offer and the people were so kind and full of life.

FAVOURITE HOLIDAY SPOT?

It really depends what I am after. I feel so at home in Asia, on a remote tropical beach with a coconut in hand. But then I also love a Mediterranean escape. The Croatian coastline and islands are incredibly special, and a little less chaotic which is why I love returning.

BUCKET LIST DESTINATION?

I have had this sudden urge over the last few months to explore the Caribbean Islands next season. I travelled to Belize in my early twenties, and would love to return for a bigger trip to capture the landscape and culture through a lens.

WHAT DOES THE OCEAN MEAN TO YOU?

The ocean is my reset. The minute you dive underwater, there’s a real sense of peace.

WHERE IN THE WORLD DO YOU FEEL MOST INSPIRED?

Along the Mediterranean coastline for sure. There’s so much history there and the landscape ignites with so much energy in the summer. There’s nothing quite like it. Once I’ve captured what I am looking for and taken some down time to unwind, I’ll return back home to Indonesia where I reset and complete post production. Living in Indonesia is definitely how I keep my balance between work and calm.

WHAT IS ON YOUR TRAVEL PLAYLIST?

Currently I’m in Sumba, Indonesia, so my playlist is filled with quite mellow sounds.

BEST PODAST FOR A LONG JOURNEY?

I love listening to podcasts on a driving trip. There’s been a few long distance travels this year, and nothing beats a true crime or investigative story to keep you guessing. An all time favourite was Serial.

WHAT DO YOU NEVER TRAVEL WITHOUT?

My camera is a given, but I also always travel with my peppermint natural essence roll-on. It does wonders for motion sickness when needed. I also never travel without my Sensatia facial mask. When I need to balance out during a trip, I’ll take some time to myself, put on a face mask, pour a glass of wine and watch some Netflix. It is truly a revitalising ritual and creates a sense of home while on the road.

TOP PACKING TIP?

My cameras take up so much of my baggage, so I usually keep to lightweight clothes in a tonal colour palette so everything can mix and match – as well as not require ironing.

WHERE ARE YOU HOPING TO TRAVEL NEXT?

I have a few more Indonesia-based trips before I make it back to Europe for the end of summer. I’m loving being in the raw and tropical climate at the moment for some personal time with family and friends.
